Silver Airways is expanding its network within Florida by adding daily nonstop flights between Orlando International airport and Destin-Fort Walton Beach airport starting 16 May.
The new route is aimed at easing connections for the regional carrier’s flights to the Bahamas and other US locations through its codesharing venture with United Airlines, and interline ticketing with American Airlines and Delta Air Lines, which all fly out of Destin-Fort Walton Beach.
Fort Lauderdale-based Silver also offers daily nonstop service between Fort Lauderdale and Daytona Beach International airport, and daily nonstop service between Fort Lauderdale and Pensacola International airport.
Silver aims to eventually replace its fleet with ATR-built twin-engine turboprop aircraft. The regional airline has two ATR-42-600 aircraft in service and has ordered 11 more, according to Cirium’s Fleets Analyzer. The rest of its fleet in service consists of 21 Saab-built 340-B twin-engine turboprop aircraft. The new ATR aircraft Silver has ordered each have 46 seats, 12 more than on the Saab aircraft the carrier plans to replace.
